Daily Log EP

5/5/17

Today we worked on our ROV Research for our blog's info pages, and were interrogated about our  ROV knowledge by Ms. S.

We also divided up our jobs into our construction tasks.
Next time and over the weekend, I'm going to watch the training videos and become very handy with tools. Me and Otilija are going to be motor constructors. I am going to try soldering.

Today I prepped myself with reviewing the motor building and wiring instructions. I also practiced stripping wire and and stripping cables.

At home I am going to ask my father if I can try to solder something in the garage. Tomorrow, in class, I am going to practice soldering and possibly waterproofing and maybe start building the motor and assembling the connections.

Today me and Otilja worked on connecting the propellers to the motors and waterproofing the propellers. I also worked on soldering with the class equipment to get a feel for the specific soldering equipment we will be using.
Tomorrow, we will work on connecting the control box's wires to those of the motor, and solder them together. Then, we will try to waterproof the connections.

Today we worked on constructing the strain relief and the strain relief cross. We then threaded the motor wires through the strain relief cross carefully. Tommorow, we will solder the motor wires, for real this time, to the control  box now that we have set it up through the strain relief.

This day, we stripped the wires and twisted the motor wires and tether wires together to prepare for soldering, and got some of the wires soldered finally! We did pretty good despite the wires that were not yet soldered sometimes conspiring to untwist themselves when we weren't looking. On Thursday we are going to finish soldering, and afterwards check in with the rest of the team.

Today we finished soldering and waterproofed the wires. We used the heat gun and it was cool seeing the casing reshape itself water tightly around the wires. Tomorrow we are going to attach the motors to the frame and possibly begin testing.

5/19/2017

Today we attached our motors to the frame! We also tested the ballast and buoyancy of our rover in the small pool, and made various other calculations. Next time, we are going to get the control box wired up and make some other adjustments, and hopefully test out the kinks!
